Sports Writer

Hi, I’m Gregory.

I am a freelance sports writer with a lifelong passion for the games I cover. I specialise in football and boxing, but I also write across a range of other sports depending on the project.

Sport has always been a big part of my life, so writing about it never feels like work. Whether I’m breaking down a major fight, analysing key moments in a football match, or covering wider stories from across the sporting world, I aim to produce content that’s clear, engaging, and properly informed.

I take pride in understanding the detail behind what I write, not just reporting what’s happened but offering context and insight where it matters. If you’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys the subject as much as the writing itself, you’re in the right place.

Football Writing

Football is where it all started for me, and it’s still the sport I come back to every day. I’ve followed it long enough to know that the real story is rarely just the scoreline—it’s in the details, the decisions, the patterns that develop over weeks rather than minutes.

That’s the angle I bring to my writing. I’m not interested in churning out generic match reports or recycled talking points. I look for what actually matters—why a game unfolded the way it did, what’s changing behind the scenes, and how it all fits into the bigger picture. Whether it’s a tactical shift, a run of form, or a moment that swings a season, I try to make it clear and worth reading.

I’ve worked with clients like ManUnited.uk for years, delivering consistent football content built on that approach, but I also take on one-off pieces and more focused assignments. Some projects need regular coverage, others need a fresh perspective on a specific topic—I’m comfortable doing both.

More than anything, I enjoy writing about football because I still enjoy following it. That might sound obvious, but it matters. When you genuinely care about the subject, the writing tends to have a bit more life to it—and that’s what I aim to bring to every piece.

Boxing Writing

Boxing’s always been a bit more personal for me. My grandfather was a boxer, so it’s a sport I grew up around in one way or another. That connection stuck, and over time it turned into a genuine interest in the fights, the fighters, and the stories that sit behind them.

It’s a sport that rewards attention. The small details matter—styles, timing, preparation, the psychology of it all—it all tells a story, and that’s what I try to reflect in my writing. Whether it’s a big title fight or a quieter undercard bout, there’s usually more going on than meets the eye.

I’ve worked with a wide range of clients, from specialist boxing blogs right through to national newspapers, adapting my approach depending on the audience and the brief. Some pieces need depth and analysis, others need clarity and pace—but the aim is always the same: write something that feels informed, engaging, and worth the reader’s time.

Other Sports

While football and boxing are my main focus, I’ve also written across a wide range of other sports over the years. That includes cricket, tennis, golf, MMA, darts, rugby, and athletics, among others.

I tend to follow most sports in my own time anyway, so I’ve built up a strong overall understanding that carries through into the writing. It means I can step into different subjects comfortably, pick up the key talking points quickly, and still produce work that feels informed rather than surface-level.

Whether it’s a one-off piece or part of a broader brief, I approach these sports in the same way—clear, well-researched writing that respects the audience and the sport itself.
